The Landlord Atlas is the product of five years of open-source intelligence work: SEC filings, sales archives, LEIs, and LLC records, stitched together to reveal the true ownership of more than 500 buildings representing over 80,000 apartments.
Most property records only list the registered owner of a building. The Atlas goes further — surfacing the ultimate beneficial owner, whether that owner is a real estate investment firm, and the landlord's eviction history since 2018. At least 45% of the region's apartments are investor-owned.
